What’s the commission process for custom work?
First, you’ll contact me with an inquiry, answering the prompts in form below. Once I receive your inquiry, I’ll respond with some baseline questions, and we can set up a time for a phone or video consultation to discuss your vision.
After our call, I’ll provide you with a broad price range estimate.
If you’re satisfied with the price range and want to proceed, I will work on some design options and drawings, and give you a more informed price estimate. (We can work towards fitting the designs into your budget by altering certain elements, wood types, etc.)
(Before beginning the design process, I do require a design fee - if you choose to move forward with the project, this cost will count towards the total price.)
Once we establish the design, I will send a contract and ask for a deposit for materials and commencing the work, and get started on your build.
I will keep you updated during the build process of how it’s progressing. Once it’s completed, the remainder of the payment will be due at the time of pickup/delivery/install.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does pricing work?
It depends on the type of project.
For frames and projects of smaller nature, I can often give you an exact price.
For furniture and cabinetry, price may be a set labor plus material cost. Instead of up-charging material estimates to account for variation in lumber etc., you’re paying for what is actually needed. I will provide you with an approximate range according to my rough calculations, and then keep you updated with costs as I purchase materials, and include total prices in the final invoice.
